Information for Eye Care Professionals

Welcome to the Eye Care specialists section of the website

SeeAbility and other leading eye health organisations and visual impairment charities have supported the Local Optical Committee Support Unit (LOCSU) to develop a new Eye Care Pathway for Adults and Young People with Learning Disabilities.

In this section optometrists and eye care specialists can access specialist information specifically about examining people with learning disabilities. Through our relationship with Healthcare Optical and Replay Learning optometrists have the opportunity to undertake on-line training and to acquire ‘CET’ points .

We regret that the CET points are currently unavailable.

Optometrists have the opportunity to identify their commitment and interest in working with people with learning disabilities through registering their practice with Look Up.

SeeAbility's eye 2 eye Campaign is working with Kay Pictures and is pleased to offer optometrists and orthoptists a 50% discount on the list price of any Kay Picture vision tests.

The offer is only available to professionals who have registered on the Look Up database or have in the past undertaken Healthcall Optical's CET: Examining People with Learning Disabilities. To receive your discount Kay Picture Tests, go to  kaypictures  simply quote 'SeeAbility offer' on your order form and provide a copy of your CET certificate, or confirm that you are registered on the Look Up database.

Optometrists and other eye care professionals can download pre and post eye examination forms that assist people with learning disabilities and their carers to make the most of their eye examinations

All our visitors can watch the You & Eye film, about eye care and people with learning disabilities.

We have included a brief PowerPoint presentation - The Need for Effective High Street Optometry about people with learning disabilities and high street optometry. We hope that eye care professionals and students find this information useful when presenting information to colleagues, teams or LOC's.

All our information is available as factsheets or booklets.

Optometrists can also follow the link to DOCET 76 Optometric Quarterly and search for Gordon Ilett's interview about managing patients with learning disabilities. Optometrists may also wish to visit our our easy read material that Gordon mentions in the article.
